MATERIALISM WITHIN THE HIPHOP CULTURE

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Forget about Madonna, singing about being a material girl. The mainstream rappers are constantly talking about the material things. I think it leave the audience on a low plateau, while taking them higher should be the purpose. Hip hop music is the most intellectual music genra there is, because in rap songs you can handle various subjects that is actually going on in the community, but the mainstream rappers are off track with their topics about Louis Vutton, Gucci, Prada or what ever. They brag about the newest car, kicks, ice and so on and so on. What happend to some rich lyrical content.

BROTHER ALI

Sunday, May 27, 2007

This dude is speaking the facts about the USA. He got a tight flow and represent hip hop in it's authenic state. He got a strong opinion about the American slave history. This track Uncle sam god damn got to me, because even the black rappers ain't spoke about this subject in a while.

This song is about how America has explioted black people. I think it is a good thing that he do a track with Primo that will get his name known. He is very deep rooted in soul, jazz and other black music streams. It is obvious this cat is taking hip hop beyond it's bounderies.

IT IS GOING THE OTHER WAY

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I find it absurd how the nowadays rap music listeners don't know the real purpose of Hip Hop music nor it's culture. Once hip hop was created by the kids from New York to prevent the youth getting involved with drugs, crime, and black on black violence. Not only listeners forgot about hip hop's true purpose also the mainstream rappers seems not to care about this true purpose. While the most songs nowadays is about Guns, weed and Ice, there are a minority of rappers representing authenic hip hop. Once hip hop culture was about love, peace and unity.
But now it is going the other way.

50 CENT AND T.I ON CENSORSHIP.

Sunday, May 20, 2007

At a BET nominee press conference 50 told the press, that he does not have hard time dealing with banning the N word B^%$c, ho. He also say that hip hop is the reflection of the harsh realities of urban America. He is saying that if some one would ask you to describe the American flag, how can you avoid the color red. He means that in this community you can not go around N#$$%A, B$%%^C, ho.

T.I is saying that parents got to take the responsibilaty to raise their kids instead of the parents are outsourcing the job to rapper and athletes. So parents raise you children and rappers are here not to raise your kids. He is saying there are N!#$%S, B!#$%S, Ho's in this society. Rappers have the right to talk about them. So don't blame hip hop. blame your self he says.

TIMBO VS SCOTT

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

What is going on in hip hop world? this issue between Timberland and Scott Scorch. I think it is all promtion plan put together by PR people of both record companies these rivaling artists on.
I think Timberland already lost when he started working with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. I would never by a album of Timbo now anyway. At the time he was working with missy I was digging his style of producing. Scott Scorch rapping come on!!! He is producer rapping. That is obvious he not a rapper producing. He should keep it at producing.

WHAT ALBUM WORTH 5 MICS

Sunday, May 13, 2007

I have listen to quite alot albums that came out. I can say till now it is not easy to say that one album worth 5 mics. I like lots of old school rappers and also new school rappers. I got to say that when it comes to beats is Nas his album Illmatic is worth 5 mics. Not only the beats count but also the lyrics. I think the 5 mics worthy album ever is Rakim's 18th Letter. The beats are fresh, Klark Kent did a nice job on this one. The lyrics are topnotch and the flow is more classical than ever. I have not heard a album since 1997 contains that much quality.

MOS DEF

Saturday, May 12, 2007

I am big fan of Mos Def. I think he repersent underground brooklyn hip hop very well. I like the beats he rhymes on and also the freestyles he spits are tight. I saw Mos Def and Talib Kweli in 1998 in Amsterdam. I was ver impressed how they rocked the show. So after a year I bought Black on Both sides and before that Black Star album the both albums were tight. The second album of Mos Def is less hip hop I might say because there is too much rock type of music on it I am not feeling it. I hope Mos Def's next album will be packed with more hip hop beats

DUTCH RAPPERS REPERSENTING

Friday, May 11, 2007

I think Holland is one of most active hip hop community in Europe. The Old school Dutch rappers such as MC Sranang has contribute to the hip hop community alot. There are pioneers such as Def P and Extince who influenced a lots of kids to rap in Dutch. There are kids who rapped in english switched to Dutch. Rappers like UNIQ has done songs with US rappers.
Also brainpower did a song with Nas. When It comes to DJing Holland got DJ Precise.
Although hip hop is still a sub culture, there are few rappers have commercial success in last few years. When it comes to graffiti some of the kids I know bomb trains some of them get caught and pay large sums of fine to the authorities.

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Felipe Coronel is the rapper of Immortal Technique. I think this one the rappers who is repersenting authenic hip hop. This cat is born in Peru raised in Harlem,he has a very social and political loaded lyrical content. Since Chuck D this is the first rapper that I heard saying so much sensable stuff about the govrnment. A major record deal is offered to him he never signed. He is the vice president of the record label Viper records.

WHY SOME RAPPERS BEEF ON RECORDS

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

It is not a new issue in rap music. It has been around since Ice-T and LL Cool J. Beef in rap music is handled on records I think that the way it suppose to be. Unlike other music genres ,rap music is the most expressive and youthful music there is . I think it is healty that rappers battle lyrically. No further than that .It should not escalate into voilence. Most famous beef in rap music is Ice Cube vs. Commen, Canibus vs. LL Cool J, Jay-Z vs. Nas, 50 cent vs. Ja Rule, Nowadys they bring the guns out instead of raps. Some rappers start dissing well stablished rapper as a beginner to gain listners attention. That is wack.

Sri Lankan actor define hip hop culture

Friday, May 4, 2007

Yesterday I was watching a lifestyle tv program on the Sri Lankan satellite tv called Neth Sri lanka. There was a program with Jackson Anthony , a prominant actor from Sri Lanka. They spoke about the sub-cultures. Jackson Anthony describes hip hop culture as powerful political weapon used by the African -American society. He also critizes the the averige Sri Lankan rappers constantly rapping about love and not utilizing it as a tool to uplift the youth.
I think this actor is very intelligent, because he brought this subject in a very clear manner to the audience.

PROMOTE POSITIVITY

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Are you sick of all the non sense and the gimmicks about guns and drugs in rap. I know I am, I think it is about time the mainsteam rappers start to get
more aware about what they write. I think personally nothing wrong with brag and boasting. It is becoming more common to rap about drugs and guns and record companies are getting more greedy and they know that these stuff sells. Why rappers can't send out a positive message to the youth and utalize this powerful communication medium as a social tool to uplift the kids.
